The AIRE Centre, in collaboration with, Child Circle in Belgium, the Centre for Women War Victims (ROSA) in Croatia and the University College Cork in Ireland, hosted a conference in London on Separated Children in Judicial Proceedings on the 28th and 29th April 2016.

It brought together judges and practitioners from different fields to share their experience of litigating issues, which have an impact on children who are separated from or being separated from their parents and siblings - with a view to ensuring that the interests of the children are always central to the proceedings.

Themes discussed:

  • Children as European Citizens
  • Children and imprisonment
  • Children in cross-border relocation and abduction situations
  • Children in public and private family law proceedings
  • Child asylum seekers, separated and unaccompanied children
  • Child victims of trafficking
  • Children litigating before the European Court of Human Rights, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child
