We are recruiting for two roles

 

RULE OF LAW PROGRAMME: RESEARCH INTERN

 

Job Title: Legal Research Intern - Western Balkans Rule of Law Programme

Job Type: 4 days a week with one ‘work from home’ day

Duration: 4 Months

Start date: Flexible - 3 of May 

 Based: Russell Square, London

 

Job Description: The Intern’s role will primarily be concerned with our Western Balkans projects, in particular: the capacity building of the Judiciaries in the Western Balkans, the regional European Human Rights Bulletin and Database and the Programmes publications. The internship will include:

  • Legal research and drafting of case summaries for the Human Rights Bulletin and other AIRE publications;
  • Legal research and drafting to support the preparation of materials for training seminars;
  • Supporting the organisation in international events – this may involve accompanying the legal team internationally at seminars, conferences and/or events;
  • Legal research for the European Human Rights Database;
  • Keeping effective files

 

All legal work is supervised.  As the AIRE Centre has only one support staff member, both interns and staff are required to assist with administrative tasks as they arise.

Essential Criteria:

  • completed law degree
  • A good understanding of the European Convention on Human Rights
  • Excellent drafting skills
  • A high standard of written and spoken English
  • The ability to work 4 days a week for a minimum of four months

Desirable Criteria:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office packages;
  • Ability to condense large volumes of information in a simple/concise way;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • An ability to learn quickly;
  • Familiarity with the legal reform process in the Western Balkans 

All internships are unpaid, although £5 travel and £3 lunch expenses will be covered for the days worked.

LEGAL CASEWORKER


Start Date: May 2018

Job Title: Legal Caseworker Intern

Job Type: Full Time

Duration: 4 Months

Based: Russell Square, London

Description: Generally Interns assist the legal Director and Legal Project Managers with all aspects of preparatory work for the AIRE Centre's legal advice services and cases pending before the ECtHR, including:

  • ·  Legal research in support of cases
  • ·  Correspondence with the client the court or other legal professionals
  • ·  Accompanying the legal team during hearings
  • ·  keeping effective files

In addition to the above, interns may be requested to assist with:

  • · Research for articles, journals and AIRE publications. 
  • ·  Undertaking projects in which the AIRE Centre is asked to take part;
  • ·  Legal research for the advice service
  •     Attend seminars and conferences on behalf of AIRE

All Legal Work is supervised.

To be eligible you must:

  • ·  Have a completed law degree
  • ·  Have a good understanding of the areas of Law in which the AIRE Centre works(EU Free movement, EU Migration, asylum etc)
  • ·  Be able to work full-time for a minimum of Four Months.
  • ·  Have a good standard of written and spoken  

All Internships are unpaid, although £7.50 travel and £4.50 lunch expenses will be covered for the days worked.
