European Year of Citizens 2013

22 January 2013

20 years of working for all the citizens of Europe

Launch in Brussels 22nd January 2013

It is 20 years since the Treaty of Maastricht brought into law the concept of a “Citizen of Europe” and 20 years since the AIRE centre was established to ensure that all the denizens of Europe  - including those who are privileged to be its citizens - enjoy the rights they have been granted under both the European legal orders (that of the EU, as it now is, and of the Council of Europe). For 20 years, the AIRE Centre has worked tirelessly towards this goal.

The AIRE Centre is therefore especially proud that the Centre’s Founder and now the organisation’s Senior Lawyer, Nuala Mole, has been invited to be a keynote speaker at the launch of the European Year of Citizens at which she will celebrate 20 years of the Centre working together with our partners in Europe for the rights of the people of Europe.

She will be speaking together with Ms Ylva Tivéus, Director for Citizens, DG COMM, European Commission; Mr Staffan Nilsson, President, European Economic and Social Committee; Ms Chiara Adamo, Head of Unit, Union citizenship and Free movement, DG Justice, European Commission, and other experts in this field.
